The previous best was by Irfan Pathan, who took 12 for 152 in 2005.1985 The last time a captain took eight wickets in a Test innings before Herath. Kapil Dev took 8 for 106 against Australia in Adelaide. Herath also took the third-best bowling figures in a match as captain, behind Courtney Walsh and Waqar Younis.
